10 January 2012

Grant Thornton is pleased to announce the appointment of a new member firm in Belarus with effect from 1 January 2012. Based in Minsk, Silar LLC will operate as Grant Thornton Silar and was formerly part of EurAudit International. This is the first time Grant Thornton has had representation in Belarus.

Established in 1993, the firm is currently number five in the local market with a 5% market share. The firm has two partners and around 40 staff and is led by Valentina Silina. The main service focus is currently on audit but there are plans in place to grow and develop tax and advisory practices.

Ed Nusbaum, CEO, Grant Thornton International, commented, “We are delighted to welcome Silar LLC to Grant Thornton. The firm has a strong reputation in Belarus and an ambition to grow and develop their business that makes the firm an ideal fit with the Grant Thornton strategy. This strengthens our already strong capability in this area of Eastern Europe alongside Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and the Ukraine.”

Managing partner, Valentina Silina, said, “We are very pleased to be joining Grant Thornton. Our membership of Grant Thornton will help us to maintain and build on the successes we have already achieved in establishing our firm in the number five position in the Belarus market. We look forward to meeting and working with new colleagues from across the globe.”
