Taxation on expatriates in Mexico widely depends on the tax residency of the individual. Therefore, determining the tax residence of an expatriate implies a deep analysis of the local tax legislation as well as a profound study of any Tax Convention to Avoid Double Taxation and Tax Evasion entered into by and between the Mexican Government and foreign Governments. Mexico has widely executed this sort of international treaties.
As a consequence of the aforementioned, our expatriates’ tax services include an analysis of the applicable domestic and international tax legislation in order to determine the tax residency of the relevant individual (a tax residency questionnaire is applied); the performance of different activities aimed to determine the right option for the individual to pay his/her taxes derived from his/her labor assignment in Mexico, as well as to bringing support on the Mexican tax ID number request procedure, if needed. We also provide precise and accurate advise about different alternatives for the foreign residents to optimize their overall local tax burden.
It is important to mention that our Firm is able to bring support in obtaining an employment visa or work permit before the immigration authorities. Furthermore, we can interact with the expatriates’ local tax advisors, in order to jointly define the best alternative for the client to optimize his/her overall international tax burden as much as possible.
Our services include the computation of the duly Mexican income tax (on monthly or annual basis), advisory on the payment procedure, and any other activity needed for tax return filing. Likewise, we are be able to bring support in the performance of different activities in order to conclude with the expatriate’s Mexican tax obligations at the moment that they leave Mexico (tax clearance procedure).
