Indirect tax ebook - Australia

The Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime came into effect on 1 July 2000. Being a relatively new regime, it is still in the process of being refined.

A large number of areas of the GST legislation are currently under scrutiny following a Government inititated review which was undertaken by the Board of Taxation. Specifically, the Board of Taxation has made 47 major recommendations for changes to the Australian GST, 45 of which have been accepted by the Government and are at different stages of review and implementation.

One of the major areas of review is the application of GST to cross-border transactions
